USDOT NUMBER

Do I need a USDOT Number?

If your company will be operating in any of the following capacities, then YES you are required to have a US DOT Number.

INTERSTATE - Crossing state lines

  1. Operate a vehicle with a GVWR, GCWR, GVW or GCW of 10,001 pounds or more across state lines.

  2. Operate a vehicle that is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation.

  3. Operate a vehicle that is designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers (including the driver), and is not used to transport passengers for compensation.

  4. Transport hazardous materials requiring placarding.

INTRASTATE - Staying within the state in which you are domiciled.

  1. Carry one or more types of Hazardous Materials that require a Safety Permit.

  2. State of domicile requires issuance of a USDOT Number - See below for a list of states.
